Discussing Windbreaks Management Policy Framework

On October 23, 2017, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia hosted “the discussion on sustainable windbreaks management concept", organized by REC Caucasus within the frames of the project - "Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”, executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC). The project is funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and its implementing United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). GIZ, the project partner technically supported in elaboration of the concept in the frames of IBiS project. 

At the meeting, the experts presented the Windbreaks Management Policy Framework designed with the participation of wide spectrum of stakeholders, which thoroughly reviews the institutional distribution of windbreaks inventory, planning, cultivation and protection functions. After approving the concept, the project and GIZ are planning to improve the draft law elaborated by the Agrarian Issue of Parliament of Georgia before the Spring Session. 

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Ministry of Finance, Parliament of Georgia - Agrarian Issues and Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committees, National Agency of Public Registry of Ministry of Justice, Administration of the State Attorney-Governor in Georgian Administrative Territorial Units, as well as the representatives of Municipality administrations, international organizations and NGO's.
