Cooperation agreement between Michael Succow Foundation and REC Caucasus

The Michael Succow Foundation (hereinafter referred to as MFS) and REC Caucasus agree to be implementation partners in the frame of the project: "Biosphere Reserves as model regions for climate change mitigation and adaptation - capacity development for the establishment of biosphere reserve in Kakheti"  financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Government, Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).

The Michael Succow Foundation is a German operational foundation founded in 1999 and active in nature conservation and sustainable development, especially in biosphere reserves in various countries.

MSF has a strong interest in and extensive experience with promoting the approach and facilitating the establishment of UNESCO biosphere reserves, in its sense of the UNESCO Statutory framework, and has a longstanding experience of working in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

REC Caucasus in the context of its long-term commitment to promote Ecosystem Conservation approach in the region of South Caucasus has robust interest to contribute to the establishment of one of the first UNESCO biosphere reserves in Georgia. RECC is fully dedicated to provide local knowledge and expertise focused on Policy Formulation, Capacity Development, Communication and innovative approach to ensure provision of ecosystem services.

Both MSF and RECC strongly affirm the need for, and importance for collaborative partnerships, both locally and internationally, and also to work with and in support of local organizations in identifying and implementing solutions that are sustainable and appropriate to the needs of local communities.

Both MSF and RECC recognize the importance of the development and implementation concepts for sustainable development in Georgia and see UNESCO biosphere reserves as a promising approach in this regard.

The duration of the cooperation agreement is up to November 30, 2017.
