BACKGROUND
UNESCO biosphere reserves (BRs) serve as model regions for sustainable development, supporting the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. As sustainability laboratories, BRs combine natural resource protection with economic and social development.
The Three Alazani Rivers Biosphere Reserve in Georgia, designated by UNESCO in 2022, is among the country’s first BRs.
