The project “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas” is 3 year project (2016_2019) initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource protection of Georgia and financed by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The implementing agency is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the project is executed by the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus). The project is executing in close cooperation with Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC), and the partners are: Dedoplistskaro, Akhmeta and Gardabani municipalities, EU/UNDP programme “Sustainable Management of Pastures in Georgia to Demonstrate Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Benefits and Dividends for Local Communities”, GIZ project “Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus (IBiS), and NGOs “Green Alternative” and “GIS-lab”.
Project Objective is to support integration of good Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) principles and practices into national policy and institutional framework to ensure adoption of economically viable practices by rural communities and consists of three main components:
1. Policy, regulatory and institutional reforms to mainstream L-SLM practices;
2. Demonstrating benefits of introducing best L-SLM practices in the production system;
3. National capacity development and knowledge Management.
The educational booklet on L-SLM practices will be prepared and published. As well as newsletters onproject activities and progress, project news and on key documentation and lessons learned. All the activities also will be broadcasted on radio/TV reportages and articles published at local newspapers.
The project activities also will be published at specially developed project portal on REC Caucasus web-site.
