Environmental Awareness Soars at N2 Public School in Kutaisi through “PCB-Free Electricity Distribution” Initiative

In a transformative effort to cultivate environmental awareness and sustainable practices, a pivotal event unfolded on November 17 at N2 Public School in Kutaisi. Serving as a cornerstone of the “Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB)-Free Electricity Distribution in Georgia” initiative, the session engaged 39 participants, including students, teachers, and representatives from REC Caucasus.

Commencing with an exploration of the National PCB Management Plan, the event provided a comprehensive overview of its significance in guiding the life cycle of PCBs on a national scale. Key components, from PCB utilization to ultimate disposal, were highlighted, offering insights into preventive actions and containment systems.

The presentation placed special emphasis on intricate strategies embedded in the plan, such as the use of steel containment containers and the construction of enclosures around transformers. These measures, designed to mitigate the environmental impact of PCBs, underscored the project’s commitment to ensuring safe handling and disposal.

The event aimed to provide a holistic understanding of the National PCB Management Plan, encompassing both its strategic components and the challenges encountered in practical implementation. This informative session laid the groundwork for a robust discussion where pupils and teachers sought a deeper understanding of the project and the exact challenges faced in managing PCBs and PCB-contaminated equipment.

As the “Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB)-Free Electricity Distribution in Georgia” project progresses, it continues to empower communities with knowledge and awareness, contributing to a cleaner and safer environment.
