Generating Economic and Environmental Benefits of Sustainable Land Management

On October 17, 2017, in Tbilisi, “Gallery Palace” Hotel, The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) organized validation workshop within the frames of the project – “Generating Economic and Environmental Benefits from Sustainable Land Management (SLM) for Vulnerable Rural Communities of Georgia”.

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its implementing agency United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia together with the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC). The project includes 4 municipalities of Georgia (Gori, Kvareli, Sagarejo, Kareli) and its main objective is to develop and strengthen sustainable land management (SLM) practices and build capacity at municipal scale for their application for the protection of natural capital in Georgia.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia – Ms. Ekaterine Grigalava, the representatives of Parliament of Georgia – Agrarian Issues and Environmental Protection and National Resources Committees, National Experts as well as the representatives of Gori, Kareli, Sagarejo and Kvareli municipalities, Scientific Sectors, International Organizations and NGO’s.

Among discussed themes, the prevention and reduction of land degradation, supporting achieving national goals of land degradation neutrality (LDN) balance as well as the ways of implementing sustainable land management practices were prioritized.
