Integrated Urban Action Plan for Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regions

On October 30-31, 2017, in Zugdidi Municipality, The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) has conducted Technical Assistance (TA) within the frames of the project – “Livable Urban Areas: Integrated Urban Plans for Balanced Regional Development”.

The project is funded by The Asian Development Bank (ADB). The Executing Agency (EA) for the TA is the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure (MRDI) of Georgia. The implementing agencies (IAs) are all the relevant agencies under the MRDI including the Municipal Development Fund, United Water Supply Company of Georgia, and the Roads Department. Agencies under Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MoESD) including the municipalities within the selected urban areas as the beneficiaries. The basis of the project is  to improve regional balance in terms of promoting economic growth outside the capital and its growing metropolitan influence to other potential areas, with planned urban growth to be encouraged through development of livable cities as countermagnets to the capital.

During the workshop, the focus group such as: Small Businesses; Gender (for both Men and Women separately), Youth, Differently-abled and Senior citizens were established consisting of representatives from key departments under both MRDI and MoESD, as well as from government of Samegrelo, who discussed Integrated Urban Action Plan with relevant stakeholders in order to develop strategic directions  for the next step of investments.
