We have a responsibility in developing and implementing policies for advancing nature-based solution for climate change, biodiversity conservation and pollution reduction” – noted Director of the Europe Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

🗣️ “I would like to proudly say that between the 4 main directions that was chosen for the city over the period of next few decades, eco city is one of the important ones and this is why this direction imposes responsibility for Kutaisi to become more attractive green city, not only for local residents but also for other visitors and that is why we try to do more in this regard, of course this project will substantially help us achieve low-carbon and sustainable and transport mobility system development” – said mayor of Kutaisi city, Mr. Ioseb Khakhaleishvili.

🟩 The “Low Carbon Solutions through Nature Based Urban Development for Kutaisi City” is a 3-year project taking place from 2022-2025. It will enable a transformative shift towards a sustainable urban development within and outside of Kutaisi City by strengthening planning and institutional frameworks, demonstrating and scaling-up investment in integrated low-carbon electric solutions in transport and sustainable land management practices.

🟩 This will enable Kutaisi to mobilize investment in low emission electric public transportation and green city development achieving significant GHG emissions reduction and sustainable land management.

🟩 The project is initiated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture (MEPA) of Georgia and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It will be implemented by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) with the support of the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus).
