REC Caucasus And The Ministry Of Agriculture Of Georgia Hold A Workshop Meeting In Sighnaghi Municipality

The representatives of Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) and the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia gathered on June 13 to visit Signaghi Municipality within the frames of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded and its implementing United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) project:  “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”.  The project is executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC).

The attendees conducted study on saline soil territory, which was explored by the Research Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia who identified demonstrating areas where the rehabilitation of the saline soil could take place in order to reduce degradation and increase fertility.

In the frames of the mentioned project, Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, as well as Signanghi Municipality governance plans to prepare and implement the pilot project.
