REC Caucasus Organizes Meeting on “Defining the Pastures Management Policy and Development of Common Vision in Georgia”

Within the frames of the project “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”, funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), United Nations Programme (UNEP) and executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with Regional Environmental Centre for Caucasus (RECC), on April 24, 2017, in Tbilisi, at the Conference Hall of Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC), REC Caucasus organized workshop “Defining the Pastures Management Policy and Development of Common vision in Georgia”.

The meeting was attended by the Stakeholders from relevant Ministries, local governmental authorities (Gardabani, Dedoplistskaro, Akhmeta Municipalities), academic institutions, non-governmental and project partner organizations, as well as farmers.

The aim of the meeting was to identify the problems in pasture management, such as ownership issue, unsustainable pasture practices, its planned management and etc.

The attendees established recommendations, on basis of which REC Caucasus will continue to work on implementation of further steps with Stakeholders in order to develop the Policy Document, which will be the main instrument for creating Legislative Basis to regulate sustainable pasture management in Georgia.
