REC Caucasus starts implementing agroforestry, soil fertility and the pasture recovering plan in Akhmeta Municipality

Within the frames of the project – “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”, implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus, which is financed scapes and sustainable land management on rural territories”, implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with REC Caucasus, which is financed by the Global Environment Found (GEF) and its implementing The United Nations Environment Programme, the meeting was held in Akhmeta Municipality. The head of the Land Resources and Mining department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection – Nino Chikovani, the Director of REC Caucasus – Sophiko Akhobadze and the project Manager – Ketevan Tsereteli, met with the Governor of Akhmeta Municipality – David Potskhverashvili. The meeting was also attended by the representators of Akhmeta Municipality from administrative units, farmers, representatives of Information-Consulting Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and board employees.

The aim of the meeting was to introduce the project, exchange information and plan the future cooperation. In particular, identifying existing problems in Akhmeta Municipality recovering agroforestry, soil fertility and the pasture in order to suspend land degradation.

On the basis of recommendations by the participants of the meeting discussion and local specialists, primary case was chosen to be cleaning and recovering the pasture, which is essential for the local population.
