On September 20, 2018, in Betsy’s Hotel, the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) organized expanded steering committee meeting of the project “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”. Project is lead by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), implemented by United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and executed by the Regional Environmental Centre for Caucasus (RECC).
Discussion and adoption of the Activity Work Plan and the Calendar of activities were the main topics on the agenda. The members of the Steering Committee were monitoring and providing guidance to the implementation of the action activities, assessing the overall action progress, providing advice and approval for the work plans and facilitating coordination between beneficiaries.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture (MEPA) – Ms. Nino Tandilashvili and Mr. Ersin Esen, UN Enviroment GEF Task Manager.15 members of the Steering Committee, including the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance, National SCOs, CBOs and Tbilisi State University participated in the meeting.
The attending stakeholders and Steering committee members acknowledged the success achieved within the project, ongoing activities and future plans within the frames of the project, as well as adopted recommendations for next year’s action plan presented by the project team.
