Restoring Windbreaks And Identifying Pasture Problems Was Named The Main Priority During The Next REC Caucasus’ Meeting In Dedoplistskaro Municipality

On February 24, another meeting within the frames of Global Environment Facility project – “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas” was held in Dedoplistskaro Municipality. The head of the Land Resources and Mining department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection – Nino Chikovani, the Director of The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) – Sophiko Akhobadze and the project Manager – Ketevan Tsereteli, met with the Deputy Governor of Dedoplistskaro Municipality – Solomon Gorashvili.

During the meeting, project’s essence and its aim was discussed in details, which was followed by planning the future cooperation for the project implementation, as well as signing a memorandum of understanding in order to strengthen the upcoming partnership.

The meeting was attended by the Municipality board employees and the representatives of Ministry of Agriculture.

Among discussing other problems of Municipality, rehabilitation of windbreaks to protect from agricultural land degradation and identifying pasture problems were primary subjects of the meeting. The representatives of the Municipality, marked the necessity of resolving the abovementioned issues by regulating the relevant legislation.

The same project includes identifying legislative shortcomings, elaborating appropriate policy and underlining the importance of local farmers and population’s involvement to implement a pilot project.
