Objectives – The Sector Project BoDeN and the Integrated Biodiversity Management programme, South Caucasus (IBiS)  and REC Caucasus are collaborating in order to foster the economic dimension in the elaboration of new strategies aiming at strengthening the wide application of sustainable land management practices. To this end, GIZ Sector Project BoDeN within the framework of Land Degradation Neutrality pilot project in Georgia will implement Economics of Land Degradation case study’  and household survey on cost-benefit-analysis of rangeland management systems, which produce valuable details for the policy-brief.

Specific Objectives:

  • Collect baseline data for net present (NPV) analysis for different stakeholder perspectives as identified in the ‘evidence gap analysis’.
  • Study the incidence of different pasture-user types for different regions, as part of a representative sample within Kakheti.
  • Collect data which can be used to calculate the distributional impacts of SLM scenarios for each pasture-user profile, as identified in the ‘evidence gap analysis’.
  • Establish the nature and intensity of livestock grazing within grasslands and meadows of Kakheti, to inform both the SLM scenario impacts and biomass modelling.
